Jenraytor Social, the History

We, the Jenraytors have started a Social activity wing called "Jenraytors Social" in the interest of Giving back to the community in which we were brought up.

Firstly, for your information, the Jenraytors are comprised of 67(42 boys & 25 girls) members and studied at an affiliated Engineering school of Anna University Chennai named SNS College of Technology, Coimbatore under the discipline Electrical and Electronics Engineering between 2006 - 2010. But unfortunately one of the 67 died due to multiple Jaundice during the 3rd semester period of the course on September 11, 2007. This was Ashok Kumar, a native of the Blue mountains. This came as a big shock to us. Ironically he was the first student of our college to expire. And he was buried in his hatti (village) at Ooty.

On the first year anniversary, 2008, we lighted candles and paid homage to him. The second year, 2009, we planned to plant a tree in his name in our college campus, but we were not given due permission. On the year 2010, May 4, we completed our course and left college. Each and everyone started planning for their next step. Some started working, some joined higher studies, some even got married. Everyone were busy. But that never stopped us from remembering the day of our friend.

So on, Saturday the September 11, 2010, the first step was taken towards the social activity. A small group within the Jenraytors gathered together and decided to do something good, something social in the name of our friend Ashok Kumar. So they contributed as much as possible and sponsored Breakfast to the Orphaned kids of Maadha Annai Illam at Pannimadai. That day the few Jenraytors, who were able to make it to the Orphanage, served food and had breakfast with the children and also played football with them. It was a great experience. The joy we saw on the young children's eyes encouraged us to do this again the next year. And we did.

Sunday, September 11, 2011. The fourth anniversary of our friend Ashok. All our friends are now scattered across the borders and even outside the borders of our country, India. But, we had it planned, well in advance. We started raising funds from our Team and were able to a reach the total that was 6 times than that was collected the last year. It was truly a team effort. And so we chose an Orphanage with the help of a Social Welfare Organization called the Young Stars, who also helped us last year to find the suitable place, and sponsored a grand lunch to the home of 40 children between the age of 4 to 13, Vivekanada Ashram, Sundakamuthur.  And also gave them a brand new fully equipped Computer which was purchased from the shop owned by one of the Jenraytor. That day, we also conducted drawing competition, and spent quality time with the kids. It was mind refreshing to us. We could find different qualities in each children, different talents, aspirations. It was awesome.

We are really thankful for being blessed with good parents who take care of us. But after visiting these places we found out that  millions of babies are abandoned by their parents and are left on road sides, public dustbins, etc. Some are even abandoned by the parent, since they are not able to take care of them, to the city commissioner, who in turn outsources these kids to Registered homes such as these. Such is the situation. People are to be educated.

We have decided to help these kind of kids in the coming future as much as we can, not only during the Anniversary of our friend, but even other times. We also urge you to support these kind of homes for young and old, all those who need help, in your own way. Organize teams, encourage your family, co-workers, friends and relatives.  This is the least we can do on our part to GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.
